LCA Introduces New Board Chair and Member for 2024
Lexington Christian Academy (LCA), the largest independent K-12 Christian school in Central Kentucky, is pleased to announce Brett Setzer as its new Board Chair. Mr. Setzer assumes this role on August 1, 2024. In his role, Mr. Setzer ensures LCA’s Board of Directors is effective in implementing its strategic plan, making policy decisions, and managing the leadership of the school.
Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, Mr. Setzer is the current owner and CEO of Brett Construction Company. He also founded and serves as COO of Setzer Properties. Brett offers more than 40 years of experience in commercial construction and real estate development, having completed over 475 construction projects in Kentucky and developed real estate projects across 32 states. Mr. Setzer joined the Lexington Christian Academy Board of Directors in August 2022 and has served on the finance and facilities committees during the past two years. In addition, he is in his third season serving on the LCA football coaching staff.
Mr. Setzer currently lives in Nicholasville with his wife Billie Jo and their five daughters. Three of their daughters attended LCA, including Laurel (Class of 2023), who currently attends Texas Christian University (TCU), and twins Brooks and Savannah (Class of 2025). The Setzer family attends First Alliance Church in Lexington, Kentucky. They have been active members over the past 15 years.
Giving back is something that has always been important to Brett and his family. He has served on numerous boards for business, civic and volunteer organizations. Brett and Billie Jo along with their children frequently give their time, their energy and their financial support to organizations that serve children, health and wellness, education, and faith-based initiatives. They organize and support fundraisers, lead coat and food drives during holiday seasons, fund, and hand out school supplies during back-to-school rallies and provide ongoing support to more than 15 local charities.
While Mr. Setzer enjoys his work and his philanthropic efforts, his favorite thing is spending time with his wife, his children, and his friends. He loves attending and supporting his children’s activities, attending sporting events, traveling with his family, horse racing, hunting and golf.
In addition to the appointment of a new Board Chair, LCA is pleased to announce a new member to its Board of Directors. Jason Gabbard will begin his three-year term on August 1 and may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.
Mr. Gabbard is an Executive Vice President with The Allen Company, Inc. He has more than 24 years of experience in heavy highway road construction and managing limestone quarries across Central Kentucky. Jason was born in Richmond, and now lives in Lexington. He and his wife, Kimberly, have been a part of LCA since 2011. Their youngest child, Lauren Cate, is a member of the class of 2027.
When asked about his appointment of the Board, Jason shared, “The community of LCA has had a wonderful impact on my family. I recognize the huge responsibility of becoming a Board member, and I plan to dedicate my time to helping my fellow Board members to fulfill the school’s mission and vision. With the great amount talent on the Board and on the Executive Leadership Team, I feel strongly that we can successfully move the school into the future with a common direction toward Christ.”
Mr. Gabbard will join Dusty Bonner, Mandy Ebel, Ashley Gish, Sid Lisanby, Dave Messner, Greg Shewmaker, Henry Thomas, and Allan Watts.
