COVENANT SCHOOL

What does it mean to be a covenant Christian School?
Before we explain what a “covenant” Christian school is, it might help to understand the term “covenant.” In Biblical terms, a covenant was a binding agreement that defined a commitment or obligation between two parties. A covenant school seeks to bind families and the school together through a common pledge to educate all students within the school system and at home through the lens of a Biblical worldview.

At Lexington Christian Academy, we require at least one parent be a professing Christian, active in a local church, and agreeing with our mission, “Core Values,” and “Statement of Faith.”

This “covenant” extends beyond enrollment and remains until the student withdraws or graduates from LCA. We take the nature of the covenant seriously and expect certain behavior for our school community which includes students, parents, and employees. There may be times when the covenant is strained or broken. If this should occur, conversations will be had to determine if the covenant can be repaired or if it is truly broken and both parties agree to go their separate ways.

Being a covenant school is meant to provide LCA, its families, and its employees with a common direction. That direction is towards Christ. Our covenant nature is meant to ensure that as we fulfill our Mission Statement and honor the school’s “Core Values” and “Statement of Faith,” we do so in a way that honors God, and is being reinforced at home, at church, and in the overall LCA community.

Admissions Criteria

In keeping with LCA’s mission of “equipping and nurturing students to fulfill God’s calling on their lives through Christ-centered Education,” LCA considers the following:

  • Families who are growing in their personal Christian walk and involved in their local church. LCA requires that at least one parent be a Christian.
  • Students whose academic records demonstrate proven capability to succeed in our program. Therefore, students’ records will be carefully evaluated prior to acceptance.
  • Students whose recommendations show a behavioral history that is in harmony with the behavioral expectations of LCA.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS

1. LET'S CONNECT

Let's get started by filling out an Inquiry Form if you haven’t already. You can also give us a call at 859-422-5755 or email the admissions office at admissions@lexingtonchristian.org with any questions you may have.

2. START THE APPLICATION

Complete the online application form, providing personal information, contact details, and academic history. Include email contacts for the applicant’s letters of recommendation. These will include (1) from a current teacher who can attest to the student's character and academic abilities and (2) from a ministry leader who can attest to the family’s attendance and involvement at church. Pay the one-time application fee of $75. Additional sibling applications are charged a reduced application fee of $55 per sibling applicant. All applications must be submitted to the school no later than July 1, 2024 for the 2024-25 school year.

3. submit supporting documentation

Either with the online application or attached to a subsequent email, provide copies of your student’s report cards from the prior two years, standardized test score from the current year, birth certificate, immunization record, and physical exam record. For preschool-first grade applicants, please also provide copies of your students’ eye exam and dental exam forms. Applicants who have an IEP, 504, or other educational plan are asked to submit this documentation along with any evaluations. This will permit the Coordinator of Support Services and the applicable Guidance Counselor to review the materials and determine whether LCA has the appropriate resources to support the student.

4. testing

Pre-admission screenings will be scheduled, as needed, by the Admissions Office. Screenings for rising transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students take approximately 20 minutes. For grade-level screenings, please allow one to two hours for completion. Parents may remain on campus or drop off their children with the staff.

5. applicant review

All applicants undergo a thorough evaluation before proceeding to the next step. This includes evaluating the admissions criteria of mission compatibility, academic readiness, and a good behavioral history. If the criteria are not met, a decline letter will be sent, and the application closed. If met, and further evaluation is necessary, an email with next steps will be sent requesting additional information. If met, and no additional evaluation is needed, a family interview will be scheduled.

6. family interview

The family interview includes the applicant and his/her family as well as the applicable principal, assistant principal, and admissions team members. The interview assesses the student's interests and alignment with the school's mission, core values, and statement of faith.

7. notification of admissions decision

The admissions committee conducts a final review of all application materials, considering academic performance, behavioral history, test scores, interview results, recommendations, and mission fit. Admissions decisions are made based on this holistic evaluation and availability of open spots. Correspondence will be sent from the LCA Admissions office in a timely manner following completion of your family interview.

8. enroll

To guarantee student placement, families should refer to the email notification of acceptance to enroll and register within the required amount of time. In order for your child to be officially enrolled, you will be asked to submit a "Statement of Agreement" and "Financial Contract" electronically as well as a non-refundable enrollment deposit. If the online enrollment is not completed within the required number of days, the student may be placed in the waiting pool.

9. new family on-boarding

Once the admission process is finalized, new families are asked to attend a New Family On-Boarding session. This 60-minute program is a great way for families to learn more about the culture and expectations of being part of the LCA family. The orientation date will be directly communicated to new families.

Affordability

Christian education is a significant investment. LCA offers the following programs to assist with affordability:

Tuition Assistance: LCA awards more than $800K in need-based financial aid each year. A tuition assistance overview is available here.

RaiseRight: RaiseRight (formerly the Eagle Tuition Incentive Program known as “E-TIP”) is a program set up for families to accumulate credit toward their tuition obligation at LCA. Families purchase prepaid gift cards from local and national retailers. These cards are just like cash. In appreciation for your patronage, these businesses provide discounts between 1.25% and 50% of the face value of the gift card. Learn more here (scroll to bottom of the page).

Please contact the Admissions Office if you have questions or need more information regarding our process or programs.
