LCA Community - The Weaver Family

Rebecca and Jeff Weaver have two daughters, Jillian (4th grade) and Charlotte (1st grade) at LCA. Learn why choosing LCA was an easy decision for them and why they love the school's sense of community.

What do you love most about LCA? The thing I love most about LCA is the sense of community. The relationships gained while being part of LCA have enriched our lives. I’ve witnessed community in the relationships between my girls and their teachers. The teachers LOVE their students. My daughter’s teacher cried this week as she had an opportunity to pray with her class, via Zoom, for the first time in almost two weeks. I’ve seen community in relationships between teachers and parents. I love getting to know the teachers and staff that love on, educate and influence my girls during the school year. . .and BEYOND! The opportunity to be present not only in the classroom, but also other school activities means the world to me. I’ve also observed community in relationships between my girls and their peers. This week I looked on as both of my daughters’ faces lit up as they were able to see their classmates again even though it was on a computer screen. They were thrilled! My husband and I feel so grateful for a school that is making connection a priority. Lastly, I am so thankful for the relationships our family has been blessed to build with other LCA families. Not only have our girls formed friendships that, I believe, will last beyond their years at LCA, but my husband and I have as well.

Why did your family select LCA? To be honest, choosing LCA was an easy decision. After meeting and talking with the staff and taking a tour, we knew that LCA was the place for us. We believed that the school’s mission coincided with ours as Christians and as parents. Not only have our girls learned how to read, write, add and subtract, but also about how much Jesus loves them! It is invaluable to be able to grow up in a school where learning how to serve others is as important as acquiring academic accolades.

Why do you believe LCA is worth the educational investment? For us, LCA is definitely worth the investment because not only are our girls learning about the love of Christ, but they are getting a quality education. LCA utilizes many teaching tools and technologies in addition to routine in-classroom instruction. Our girls have had the opportunity to participate in many hands-on and out of class educational experiences. Of course, our girls are still in elementary level grades but have consistently achieved high scores both on their report cards and MAP testing. This makes us confident that they will continue to excel academically.

In what ways have you seen your children grow in their faith as a result of their experience at LCA? We do believe LCA is preparing them for their future in more than just academics. Both Jillian and Charlotte are reading their Bibles. They are praying silently and out loud. They come home from school telling us, stories of Jesus in the Bible. They ask thoughtful questions about Jesus and his life. They LOVE going to chapel! Ms. Straub and Mr. Johnson do an excellent job keeping the Bible FUN and relevant to the students. They are both asking interesting and pertinent questions about being baptized soon. As a parent, witnessing the growth in their faith and character is amazing. We believe LCA is partnering with us, helping us, to grow these little girls into responsible young women of character and integrity.

What is your favorite LCA memory? My best memories are from times spent in fellowship with other LCA families. Most recently, my favorite memory involves the LCA vs. Lexington Catholic football game at home last year. A number of families gathered to tailgate and celebrate a birthday prior to the football game. As the adults ate and talked, and ate some more, the kids played around us. It was precious. Not to mention, the game was AMAZING! Nonetheless, it was the love and fellowship present that night that I remember and treasure most. It was community in the truest sense of the word.

What would you tell other parents who are considering enrolling their child(ren) at LCA? Do it! I can only speak for my family's experience at LCA, but for us, choosing LCA has been the best decision. I would say for you to meet with admissions team. Meet the staff and take a tour of the school. Get in the building and get a sense of what I've already mentioned. Find out for yourself why, I believe, LCA is the only place to begin your child's education.

When you think about your child's educational experience, what activity or project are you most proud of? Both of our girls, like I said, have consistently done well academically. That academic excellence however, is not what makes me most proud. LCA has a partnership with a public elementary school here in Lexington, as well as The Good Samaritan School in India. Every November, each student is asked to raise money and bring to the "Day of Giving" chapel. This money is used not only for child sponsorships at the Good Samaritan School but also to purchase Christmas gifts for various students at a local elementary school. Once all the donations are received, each class is given two students, one boy and one girl, similar to their age, and an amount of money to spend. The older elementary students actually have the opportunity to go to a retail store and choose the gifts, from a wish list, as a class. It is such a blessing to observe as the kids select gifts for each child and then pray over these gifts. This is only one way in which LCA teaches and fosters this servant, Christlike attitude and generosity in my girls and other students.
