LCA Names Kirby Willoughby as New Director of Athletics

Lexington, Kentucky (March 28, 2024) – Lexington Christian Academy announced today, after a national search, the hiring of Kirby Willoughby as the school’s new Director of Athletics, effective immediately.

“It is a joy to have Kirby accept this new role,” said Dr. Scott Wells, LCA’s Head of School. “Throughout Kirby’s time at LCA, she has emphasized discipleship and the importance of providing coaches and students with opportunities to glorify Christ with the talents and abilities God has given them. We look forward to the contributions she will make to our greater LCA community and the Kingdom.”

Willoughby is no stranger to LCA. She is a 2006 graduate, serves as the girls volleyball head coach, and has been in the role of assistant athletics director since 2014.

While she was a student at LCA, Kirby was a dual sport athlete participating in volleyball and basketball. She continued her volleyball career at Eastern Kentucky University and after graduating, Kirby went on to work at the University of Kentucky before returning to LCA.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve as the Director of Athletics where my team and I will embrace five Biblical principles to guide our programs. They are Character – representing Christ in all we do, Integrity – do the right thing the right way, for the right reasons, Discipline – committing to the process, Stewardship – to whom much is given, much is required, and Competitive Excellence – strive for excellence and compete for championships. If we focus on these attributes, we can create and sustain a Christ-centered culture that produces transformational athletic and educational experiences for our student athletes.”

Kirby and her husband, McKenzie, live in Frankfort with their three children - Cooper (LCA Class of 2033,) Reece (LCA Class of 2036,) and Gunner (LCA Class of 2039).
