Piper Rowe Takes Next Step with Elite Internship

July 16th - During her sophomore year, now rising junior Piper Rowe got big news for her academic and professional career. 

Piper has been given a summer research internship at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. This is a paid summer research experience that has her working alongside researchers and professors in a lab. 

"It's an 8-week program at UK. I'll be studying in a lab with a professor, and we'll be studying things related to microbiology, Immunology, and molecular genetics," Piper said. 

Piper has worked closely with LCA teacher Mrs. Kenna Jasper, who told her about the prestigious opportunity. As a sophomore at the time, Pipe was thrilled to have the chance to join other professionals in a field she's passionate about. 

"I heard about it from Mrs. Jasper. She introduced the program to me because she thought I would like it. It was really exciting. Normally sophomores don't get selected for it, it's normally seniors or juniors. I was really excited that I was chosen," Piper said. "I'm looking at a medical career path, so this leans in that direction, and I find it all interesting. I just took AP Biology with Mrs. Jasper, and I would say that class has really helped prepare me with basic experience and labs,". 

Piper credits her teachers at LCA like Mrs. Jasper for taking an interest in the futures of the students. 

"I'm really thankful for them because I'm very excited about this opportunity, and I think they've prepared me very well," Piper said. 

For any student wanting to explore similar fields, Piper encourages everyone to take the leap of faith and see where God is leading them. Because Piper was bold in doing that, she's now representing LCA in a big way. 

"I would say definitely apply. Even if you think you might not get it, you always might. It's a really good opportunity," Piper said.
