LCA DanceBlue 2024 Raises $63,176.67 for Kentucky Children's Hospital

Again this year, LCA participated in DanceBlue, a University of Kentucky student-run organization that fundraises year-round and culminates in a 24-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. LCA held its mini-marathon on Friday, March 22, 2024 and revealed a school-record-breaking-total of $63,76.67 at the end of the night. The money raised through DanceBlue is donated to the Golden Matrix Fund, established to support the children and families being cared for by UK HealthCare Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic.

5th Graders Present Check to Make-A-Wish

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, our 5th graders presented a check for $2,409.59 to Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana! The students earned this money from their Entrepreneur Fair, which was held in November. Check out the news story here.

LCA Senior, Kathryn Sandford, Promoted to Cadet Lt. Colonel

Congratulations to LCA senior, Kathryn Sandford, a Cadet Major in the Kentucky Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), who was promoted to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel last Thursday evening in a ceremony at the LCA Rose Campus Chapel. This rank marks the completion of the cadet program and allows Cadet Sandford to test for the exceedingly rare rank of Cadet Colonel and accompanying Spaatz award. With this promotion to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Sandford is the only female high school cadet in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to hold this distinction.

Additionally, Sandford received the Eaker Award, which marks the completion of Phase IV of the CAP Cadet Program, recognizing sustained excellence in all four areas of cadet life: leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character. Fewer than two percent of cadets receive this award and the accompanying promotion to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel. Read More Here

Trefor Thomas Accepted into JA Leadership Lexington Youth Program

Congratulations to LCA junior, Trefor Thomas on being accepted into the Junior Achievement Leadership Lexington Youth Program. Through LLYP, select students network with local leaders as they delve into diverse issues, explore local opportunities, and experience all that Lexington has to offer. Over the course of the year-long program, students will be encouraged to think critically about their vision for the future of our city and allowed opportunities to develop the leadership skills they will need to affect change. LCA 5th Graders Present Check to Kentucky Children's Hospital

In November, our 5th-grade students held the annual 5th Grade Entrepreneur Fair and  voted to donate the money to Kentucky Children's Hospital. This past Friday, March 17, Dr. Scottie B. Day, Physician and Chief at Kentucky Children’s Hospital, stopped by LCA’s IBC Campus to meet with the students and their teachers. The students presented him with a check for the total amount raised - $2,037.83! Earlier in the day, 5th-grade teacher Mrs. Sarah Scott and 5th-grade ambassador Fairjana McLaughlin appeared on "Good Day Kentucky" with Lee Cruse and Hayley Harmon at ABC 36. Fairjana also interviewed with WKYT in support of this initiative. We are so proud of our fifth-grade class for being an example of our LCA family coming together to help others. LCA to Participate in See You at the Pole Event

LCA is excited to participate in this year's See You at the Pole event on September 28th. See You at the Pole™ is a global movement of prayer which is student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led. It revolves around students praying together on the fourth Wednesday in September, usually before school and usually at the school's flag pole. It involves student in elementary schools, middle/junior high schools, high schools, and colleges/universities across the globe. Read More Here

LCA Students Attend GSP and GSA

Three seniors from LCA attended the Governor's Scholar Program (GSP) and the Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) over the summer. Julianne Graham attended GSP at Centre College in Danville, and Reagan Wombles attended at Bellarmine University in Louisville. Natalie Holmes attended GSA at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. LCA Students Participate in HOBY Leadership Program

Rising juniors, Lily Harper, Abbey Potter, and Molly Roth recently participated in the 2022 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Program (HOBY) at Berea College. LCA also had two students who are HOBY alums and served as volunteers this year. LCA Intro to Business Class Competes in "Shark Tank" Competition

Thirty-two students in Mrs. Davis’ Intro to Business Class worked in groups to create their own businesses, and then design products, target market, competitive advantages, ethics, and financial profiles. LCA Students Participate in KUNA

A delegation of five LCA students had a successful trip to the Kentucky United Nations Assembly in Louisville from March 16-18. The assembly was attended by 610 students from 30 schools across the state. Sarah Childers, Kayla Corbin, Milo Golding, Abby Merz, and Pierce Ragland represented South Korea (officially the Republic of Korea) at the assembly. With a great deal of assistance from Mr. Perkins, LCA high school history teacher, the group spent several weeks researching the country and preparing to represent its interests during presentations and debate during the three-day conference. Two LCA Seniors Named as National Merit Winners

Seniors Tia Alchureiqi and Logan Beck have been recognized as National Merit Finalists. The National Merit Scholarship program recognizes students who score well on the PSAT, and those who score in the top 1% are deemed semi-finalists. In February, there were about 15,000 semi-finalists who advanced to become finalists. Merit Scholarships will be awarded to about 7,500 finalists between March and June. Congratulations to Tia and Logan on this wonderful accomplishment!

Two LCA Students Named Coca-Cola Scholars

Two LCA Seniors Named Coca-Cola Scholar Regional Finalists

LCA Raises Record Amount for DanceBlue

For the seventh consecutive year, LCA has participated in DanceBlue, a University of Kentucky student-run organization that fundraises year-round and culminates in a 24-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon. LCA revealed a school-record-breaking-total of $54,566.37 at a special halftime presentation during the LCA Boys Basketball game against Lexington Catholic on Friday, February 11, 2022. LCA Juniors Visit Asbury University

On Thursday, February 10, the high school college counseling office kicked off the college visit season with a trip to Asbury University. Nine juniors along with high school counselors, Mrs. Amy Cornell and Mr. Josh Palmer, loaded up the van for the 25 minute drive to the beautiful Wilmore campus. Upon arrival, they toured campus, met with the admissions team, talked with a student panel, and concluded the visit with lunch in the Dougherty & Gray dining rooms. 

The students got a firsthand glimpse of what student life would be like at Asbury. They especially enjoyed touring buildings, and the chapel was a favorite spot.  With the Christian Education Partnership between Asbury and LCA, LCA alumni can attend Asbury for the same tuition as LCA. Chloe King, LCA Freshman, Competes in Teen Bible Quiz

Chloe King, LCA freshman, recently competed in the Teen Bible Quiz Friendship Tournament in Orlando, Florida. Teen Bible Quiz (TBQ for short) is a quick recall type event, where questions about the Bible are asked, and members of the competing teams give answers based on the content. Chloe has been TBQ since August 2021. Prior to that, she participated in Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) on her church's team for six years, first through sixth grades. Read More Here

LCA Choir Students Participate in KMEA All State

Congratulations to these incredible young musicians on their concerts with the KMEA All State Choirs this week in Louisville, Kentucky! Bratcher Chamberlain sang in the All State 7-9 Choir. Special shout out to Mrs. Davis who was the accompanist for the All State SSAA Choir, Mr. Hornsby who was a session accompanist, and Mr. Wesley who coordinated the All State Choirs as KMEA State Choral Chair this year. 

LCA Middle School Academic Team Competes

The LCA Middle School Academic Team recently competed in District Governor’s Cup at Jessie M. Clark Middle School. They were runners up in quick recall with Wellington Hadinata advancing in math and science along with Lillie Greer advancing in composition and language arts. They will compete in Regional Governor's Cup at Winburn Middle School on February 5.

The LCA High School Academic Team competed in District Governor’s Cup at Dunbar High School on January 22. They placed 2nd in Quick Recall and will advance to regionals at Scott County in February. Individual assessment winners include: Milo Golding (senior) in Arts/Humanities; Chloe King (freshman) in Language Arts; Taylor Hitchcock (freshman) in Composition; and Jake Bechtold (junior) in Social Studies.

Two Seniors Named as Coca-Cola Scholar Semifinalists

Congratulations to seniors, Tia Alchureiqi and Milo Golding, on being two of the 2022 Coca-Cola Scholar Semifinalists!

1,617 students were selected from more than 68,000 applicants from across the country to continue through the selection process based on their academic excellence, leadership, and service demonstrated in school and community activities. 

“Milo and Tia are two extraordinary young adults who have devoted themselves to making a difference in the lives of others. They are a shining example for others to follow," said Dr. Cassondra Koett, LCA High School Principal.

Students are currently submitting their semifinalist applications to be reviewed by the Coca-Cola  Program Reading Committee. After this review, 250 will advance as Regional Finalists, with 150 becoming Coca-Cola Scholars and receiving a $20,000 college scholarship.

A joint effort of Coca-Cola bottlers across the country and The Coca-Cola Company, the Coca-Cola Scholars Program is the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship program in the United States. With the addition of the 2022 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 6,600 Coke Scholars nationwide with more than $78 million in scholarships over the course of 34 years.  

LCA 5th Grade Hosts Annual Entrepreneur Fair

The 5th Grade Entrepreneur Fair on November 16 & 17 was such a great experience for the students. They learned about making and marketing a product and then selling it to others. This year's event netted more than $2,000, which the students collectively donated to #TeamSeas.

High School Chapel Features WKYT's Sam Dick and Milo Golding

What a special morning at our high school chapel as Sam Dick from WKYT had a conversation with senior, Milo Golding. The two had met earlier this year when Sam interviewed Milo virtually about being the National Doodle for Google winner, but this was the first time the two had met in person. It was also our pleasure to present Sam with an appreciation award ahead of his retirement next month. 8th Grade Students Visit Rome, Italy

Today officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, including two from LCA. Seniors, Tia Alchureiqi and Logan Beck are among the academically talented high school seniors who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. Milo Golding Receives Recognition

Milo earned this recognition because of his remarkable academic achievements and outstanding performance on the PSAT and AP exams. Milo Golding is the Doodle for Google National Winner

LCA rising senior Milo Golding has been named the winner of the 2021 Doodle for Google competition. After making it through the initial round, which was facilitated by a panel of judges, a public voting stage took place which advanced him to the finals. Milo Golding, LCA Junior, Named Doodle for Google Kentucky State Winner

LCA junior Milo Golding received a surprise visit at his family’s home this past Saturday from Google’s “Doodle for Google” team informing him that his doodle had been selected as the winning submission for Kentucky. Golding’s entry was one of thousands received by Google from across the country and U.S. territories. Milo will represent Kentucky in the final stages of the competition. You can vote from May 10-14 here (Milo is in the Grades 10-12 category) to help him advance to the national competition. Read More Here

LCA Students Recognized in AATF's National French Contest

Students in Mrs. Alyse Treesh's junior high and high school French classes recently participated in the French contest, Le Grand Concours. This is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French, where the students take a written test and compete against students with similar educational backgrounds for prizes. 

Hadley Whipple, LCA junior, received the Silver Award, which is awarded to those who score in the 90th percentile. She placed 4th in the AATF Kentucky Chapter and will receive a $25 Amazon gift card from AATF-KY and a silver medal from AATF national.

Juniors Sophie Antle and Hayden Burt, sophomore Reagan Wombles, and 8th graders Katie Roth and Sophia Smith received an mentionne d'honneur (honorable mention) for scoring in the 50th-70th percentile. They will each receive a $10 Amazon gift card from AATF-KY and a certificate from AATF National.

LCA Senior, Stephen Davis, Receives Scholarship Award

Congratulations to LCA senior, Stephen Davis who was awarded the Ohio Dance Masters College Scholarship Award of $1,500! Ohio Dance Masters is a professional, certified membership organization of artists and educators committed to the elevation of the art of dance and to provide innovative artistic experiences for the advancement of dance worldwide.

Stephen represented ODM at the 2019 National Dance Masters of America competition in Atlanta and won 1st Runner-Up nationally.

He will be attending Point Park University, one of the top-10 dance universities in the country, as a dance major.

Students Volunteer with Christian Appalachian Project to Help Flood Victims

LCA high school students in the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy recently held a clothing drive for those residents in eastern Kentucky who were affected by the devastating flooding. The students along with LCA parent and staff chaperones also spent a Saturday in Rockcastle County volunteering with Christian Appalachian Project to help restore flood damaged homes. Read More Here

LCA Students Participate in Walk for Warmth

Led by junior, Tia Alchureiqi, a group of LCA high school students participated in the 2021 Virtual Walk for Warmth to benefit the Lexington Rescue Mission. Even though this year's event was a virtual one, registrants were encouraged to complete a two-mile walk, which the students did at Shilito Park on February 24, 2021. Through registrations and a Facebook fundraiser, the students raised nearly $1,000 for this year's event!

TK Students Put Together Care Packages

Some of our TK students spent time on Thursday, January 14 putting together care packages for the homeless. They had been studying about serving others as part of their literacy unit for the past two weeks and were very excited to help those in need. One of the students commented that putting together the bags "was like trick-or-treat except we're giving and not getting."

Chick-fil-A Leader Academy Holds Donation Drive for Veterans Center

High school students in the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy held a drop-off supply drive for the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center the week of December 14, 2020. LCA students and families responded by filling bins till they overflowed with items such as socks, t-shirts, sweatpants and snack items. Thank you to the students who organized this event and to everyone who donated. This was a wonderful way for LCA to show its love and support during the holiday season to these veterans.
