Alumni Spotlight Evan Byers
Coleman Marshall

LCA alum Evan Byers (’20) recently graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Animal Sciences and finished with a 4.0 GPA.

Evan is a redshirt junior left-handed pitcher on the UK Baseball team, and the team just finished as regular season co-SEC Champions along with Tennessee. The team is looking to make a deep run in the post-season.

Evan is a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll student. He was one of 15 Wildcats inducted into the Frank G. Ham Society of Character earlier this year. Evan was also recently named to the 2024 SEC Community Service Team. He has worked with the Jessamine County Youth Baseball program, animal care organizations, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and served as a “buddy” for the Miracle League Baseball program. He leads the team in community service hours during the 2023-24 season.

Evan plans to use his remaining year of eligibility to obtain a graduate certificate in Sport, Fitness, and Recreation Management.

How many years did you attend LCA? 15 years

LCA is where: I discovered the power of community, the true meaning of kindness, and the importance of faith in my life.

What did you love most about your time at LCA? I loved how the faculty, teachers, and students genuinely cared about each other. Teachers would always go out of their way to learn about you as a person and genuinely invest in you.

Tell us about one of your favorite memories at LCA: Senior retreat was one of my favorite memories while attending LCA. I remember our class growing together from that trip. Being able to connect with each other and worship together was one of my favorite memories.

Why do you believe it was important for you to attend LCA? I believe it was important for me to attend LCA because of the emphasis upon my faith. Being surrounded by people who share a love for Christ and have the same spiritual goals was so important for me and my growing faith.

How did LCA prepare you for college and beyond? LCA taught me a lot about hard work and responsibility. The classes and teachers challenged me and pushed me as a student. They expected us to put in hard work and would hold us accountable for our actions and quality of work. This showed me I must work hard and be responsible in order to achieve my goals.
