LCA and CAP: Fighting Hunger One Step at a Time

LCA and CAP: Fighting Hunger One Step at a Time

September 17th, 2026- It's a huge event every year, one where LCA students show what it means to serve.

Hunger Walk 2026 Recap

The entire LCA School community gathered for the Hunger Walk, and activities raising awareness for food insecurity took place on both campuses. At the Rose campus, students heard inspiring speakers share why they love partnering with Christian Appalachian Project (CAP).

  • Coach Keith Galloway — Emcee
  • Andie Brennan — Opening Prayer | LCA Student Body Co-Chaplain
  • Jamison Dunn — LCA Student Body President
  • James Brown — LFUCG Councilmember At-Large
  • Jennifer Stolo — President & CEO, Christian Appalachian Project
  • Dr. Cassondra Koett — LCA Head of School

Each speaker shared why it's important to not let the awareness of food insecurity stop after today.

"1 in 8 children in our Commonwealth deal with food insecurity. These horrific figures are the reasons why ever piece of food you donate counts," Jamison said.

Jennifer Stolo, representing CAP, reminded us that the Hunger Walk is a visual representation of our students serving and following the teachings of Jesus.

"Today is much more than just a walk. Today is really about recognizing that hunger continues to affect children, families, and seniors throughout Appalachia," Jennifer said.

LCA's Head of School Dr. Cassondra Koett spoke on how common food insecurity can be, and with that, it's crucial that our eagles spread their wings and go where they're needed.

"Children might not know where their next meal is coming from. It might affect someone in your neighborhood, or someone who might be sitting next to you. That's why today does matter so much," Dr. Koett said.

Students at the IBC Campus played interactive games that taught lessons of food insecurity. At LCA, The Hunger Walk is a tradition meant to remind our students that there's always work to be done when it comes to serving and loving like Jesus.
