Full Hearts and Full Stomachs. LCA Students Step Up to Serve
Full Hearts and Full Stomachs. LCA Students Step Up to Serve
(September 18, 2025) — “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” — Matthew 25:40.
This verse is being lived out by students at LCA as they participate in the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) Annual Hunger Walk.
In Appalachia, 1 in 5 children are food insecure, which is why CAP hosts an annual Hunger Walk to raise awareness about food insecurity in Eastern Kentucky. During the event, students from the Rose Campus walked around the track to celebrate a job well done in collecting much-needed goods for those in need—while also keeping momentum up for the work that still needs to be done. Senior Evy Kincer said she learned a lot about what it means to serve.
“I was so excited about the fact that we get to be Jesus’s hands and feet at events like this. We don’t just say our faith—we get to live it out, physically taking one step after another to show our commitment to living out the gospel by being generous the way Jesus is generous to us,” Kincer said.
At the IBC Campus, students participated in their own Hunger Walk experience, which featured five interactive learning stations designed to highlight the reality of food insecurity. Through games like Pass the Plates Relay and Lunch Line Dash, the goal was to combine faith lessons with fun, educational, and memorable experiences that students will carry with them throughout life.
“Faith, service, and excellence—they go hand in hand. You can’t be faithful without being a servant, and you can’t live a life of excellence without serving others. They all tie together, and they all represent what Christ longs for,” Kincer said.
