Chapel

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. - Mark 12:30

It is easy to seperate our faith from education, but at LCA, we believe that all life is spiritual.  Every aspect of everything we do is spiritual and belongs to God. This extends from the classroom, cafeteria, sport arenas and into the hallways... it is all spiritual. We are intentional about each and every students' faith.

Every student attends Chapel and parents are welcome to join us. It is a time for worship, to hear God's word proclaimed and to learn how to put faith into action; to realize the calling to make every aspect of life spiritual.

Campus Chapel Programs

This is my eighth year having the privilege to serve as the Chaplain for the LCA Preschool. Midway through my first year, the character of “Chef Sprinkles” emerged. “Chef Sprinkles” is often whipping-up things in the kitchen to serve as illustrations for various Bible Stories and concepts. Over the years, “Chef Sprinkles” has become synonymous with Preschool Chapel, however in order to keep things fresh for each year she sometimes ventures out of her kitchen for adventures.

This year, I’m ecstatic about what the “Chef” has on the menu, since for the first time we are aligning Chapel with the in-class Bible Curriculum. I’m really excited to have the opportunity to combine the two and help develop this new path! I think it will be a fun-filled, Bible-based excursion with Jesus! My goal is to see these kids fall deeply in love with Jesus, as they learn Who He is and seeds are planted for their own personal relationships with Him to flourish!

I find it a great privilege to join children on their spiritual, as well as their educational, journey! Deuteronomy 6 is a call to us all to be continually carried out in our daily lives. “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children...” -Deuteronomy 6. The goal is to help the Preschool children fall in love with God and help them know how much He loves them, while helping them learn to share that love with others.

Developmentally, they should walk away with these concepts:

  • KNOW: God is REAL, created them, and LOVES them!
  • KNOW: God’s Word is REAL and TRUE
  • LOVE: God wants to share His LOVE through them learning to PRAY and hearing HIS STORIES
  • LIVE: God wants us to be KIND like Jesus, obey our parents and teachers, and be kind and share with others.

One of my seminary professors, Dr. Catherine Stonehouse, once said, “Like physical growth, spiritual growth doesn’t happen overnight. It occurs little by little as children regularly spend time with God and internalize what they learn.” Young children are at an impressionable age and can encounter God in exciting ways. In addition, they can give us a glimpse into the Kingdom of God through their simple faith. My prayer is that as we venture through the Story of God, walking with Jesus, and witnessing the Presence of the Holy Spirit, the kids, as well as teachers, parents, and myself will fall in love with Jesus and experience Him in a new way!

I look forward to my new role serving as the TK/Kindergarten Chaplain! I find it a great privilege to join them on their spiritual, as well as their educational, journey! Deuteronomy 6 is a call to us all to be continually carried out in our daily lives. “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children...” -Deuteronomy 6. The goal is to introduce the TK/Kindergarten children to Jesus and help them have a growing relationship with God and others.” Children ages 5-6 are at an age where they begin to have a foundational understanding of God and have the faith Jesus talks about when He reminds us that we need to be like little children in our faith - they trust and believe in a simple way.

Developmentally, they should walk away with these concepts:

  • KNOW:God WANTS a relationship with YOU!
  • KNOW:You can talk to Him through PRAYER and always give Him THANKS!
  • LOVE:God wants you to LOVE and help others & be kind to them
  • LIVE:God wants you to obey Him and FOLLOW Jesus in everything!

It is going to be a fun adventure as I get to love on the children as we explore God’s Word, together. For the 2018-2019 school year, Chapel and the in-class Bible time will go hand-in-hand as we journey through the New Testament.

Chapel is the springboard for our Bible curriculum in the Elementary School.  In our 1st – 3rd grades, students get an entire overview of the Old and New Testament over the course of two years.  Last year we started in Genesis and worked our way through the historical books.  This year we will begin in the Old Testament poetry books and work our way through the prophetic books.  In January, we will begin the New Testament and finish it by the end of the year.  Then we will start the cycle all over again.

4th & 5th grade chapel is called CRAVE Live!  Our overarching purpose with this program is to teach our students how to study Scripture through careful observation, interpretation and application.  Cognitively, students can become proficient in the observation phase in 4th and 5th grade.  That is where the students spend most of their time in the classroom and we use CRAVE to help them through the interpretation and application phases.  Last year we studied through the entire book of James.  This year we will study through the Sermon on the Mount.

Parents are always welcome and encouraged to join us for Chapel.

Spiritual LIfe Director
The purpose and intent of chapel focuses on our students discovering their identity in Christ.

“But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.” 1 Corinthians 6:17

Chapel is a time for them to not only explore their own spiritual gifts, but also look at the world and see how they can be the hands and feet of Jesus.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

We want our students to be equipped with a biblical worldview, and seek God’s wisdom, discernment, and heart for each choice they face in life.

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

As the Spiritual Life Director I pray that our students may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” - Colossians 2:2-3, 6-7 NIV

This is our goal. That we ground them in truth, teach them to promote the success of others, and lavish them with the riches of full assurance of understanding, and the knowledge of the mystery of God—which is Christ!WeAreLCA!
