The role of Academic Counselor covers many aspects within the high school guidance department. Working alongside the College Counselors, we build a framework for our students which will prepare them for their high school days, but even more so, for college and careers.
The Academic Counselor is the point person for any matters concerning students’ grades, curriculum details, academic performance and achievement.
The A.C. is also involved with the 9th and 10th grade students- preparing their schedules for the first two years of high school, helping them understand all the “ins and outs” of high school, monitoring their classroom performance on a weekly basis, and guiding the families as they plan for their child’s future, well beyond high school. Helping the students and families understand the requirements set by LCA and the state of Kentucky for a student to receive a diploma from our school is very important.
It is so fulfilling to see the eyes of an incoming freshman, twinkling with excitement and perhaps a little fear...then to see that same senior walk across the stage at graduation... God is good!
LCA’s College Counselors provide our families with individualized guidance and support throughout the process of choosing and applying to colleges. Understanding that each family has unique concerns and expectations, our counselors can help direct students to colleges and universities that are appropriate to their needs. With the beginning stages of college exploration, students will engage in personality testing, career assessments and college searches. Counselors will meet with families to discuss testing choices and college visits during the Junior year. When the application season arrives, counselors walk through the process with each student as they navigate applications, essays, and letters of recommendation. The hope of this office is that students would find a God glorifying fit for the next stage of their lives when they leave LCA.
